Govt chalks out plans to beat seasonal woes

Setting the target of December 2017 for the piped network connection all over Delhi, the summer action plan for this year prepared by the DJB has focused on the water deficit areas. For this, the DJB has done the mapping of all areas affected by the water crisis  by regulating the valve of Under Ground Reservoirs’ (UGR) in the places. With this, the houses located at the farthest places from the UGR will also be able to get the good supply of water.

RS Tyagi, Member Water DJB said, “As residents often complain about low pressure water, therefore, this time we have planned to regulate the valve of UGR in the respective places and water will be supplied equally to the households.

“While no major initiatives have been planned this year, most of the action plan is repetition of previous year’s work such as installation of water ATMs, more water tankers with GPS facility etc.”

Moreover, this year the Government has planned to start UGR with the capacity of 15MGD in Palla Village through tubewells and rainywells. At Mangolpuri and Karala UGR new will be commissioned this year. As on date, DJB has 880 water tankers, adding to this 250 more water tankers equipped with GPS facility will launched this year.

From installation of water ATMs in the water deficit areas, 115 tubewells/rainywells have been planned to start this year at various water deficit areas.

For the issues for sewerage overflow that arises in West Delhi’s Navi Karim, Hari Nagar, Raghuvir Nagar, Mohan Garden and South Delhi’s Daskin Puri, DJB has planned to put sensor at the sewerage pumping stations. So, during the overflow of sewerage, action can be taken in a time bound manner.

This year in South Delhi, UGR will be installed at Bijwasan, Mahipalpur, Rajvari. Water to these areas will be supplied from Dwarka Water Treatment Plant which has a capacity of 40MGD.

While commissioning of Zonal laboratories have been proposed for testing water sample, it was for the first time all the MlAs were invited to give suggestions on water issues in their respective constituency.

Now, no WTPs will be shut down due to the rise of ammonia level.  DJB has tried to solve the rise of ammonia in water with the introduction of ammonia diffuser and other delinking the water sources where ammonia level was found high, said the official.

DJB has also chalked out the plan for more tubewell/rainywell in North Delhi. Installation for the pipeline is being done at Om Vihar in West Delhi. Places such as Singhu Border, Hinran Kudna, Neel Wal village in Punjab Bagh, Dichaon Kalan, Mitraon will also have the piped water supply by the year end.

last year, DJB proposed 12 UGR and provided pipeline line connection in 270 colonies. Three Water Treatment Plants Dwarka (40MGH), Okhla (20MGD) and Bawana (20MGD) were also started in 2015.
