Govindpuri's serial rapist in police cuffs

SR

Relentless pursuit of a serial rapist who had let loose a rein of terror in Govindpuri area of South-East Delhi ended on Saturday morning when a team of officials arrested him from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.

His arrest led to the cops to pin him down on three rape cases in which minor girls were targeted by the rapist from June 2013 to December 2013. The accused identified as Azad Khan (27) behaved like a psychopath who used to pick minor girls randomly and then brutalise them. Girls targeted by him had scars all over the body indicating the severity of the assault. All the girls he raped fell in the age group of 8-10 years and belonged to the labour class.

DCP, South East district Dr P Karunakaran said, three incidents of sexual assault were reported from Govindpuri area from June 2013 to December 2013. In all the cases, the modus operandi was the same and the girls were taken to nearby jungles in Tughlaqabad extension area and raped.

Several teams were made to comb areas nearby and the factory workers, owners — ‘eyes and ears scheme’ members — were taken into confidence to trace the suspect. One of the victims had told police that the accused had received a phone call after assaulting her. The police then traced numbers which had received incoming calls on that specific location. Technical data helped police trace him to Pathan Toli village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. A team was sent to Bihar. After thorough investigation and interrogation of various people in Bihar, Khan was arrested from his residence.

Khan has worked at various places in NCR for about seven years as an unskilled labourer and for the last two-and-a-half years he has been working in various factories of Tughlakabad Extension. He is married and his wife is around six months pregnant.
