GMDA finding ways to avoid traffic snarl during downpour

Soon the traffic diversions during sudden downpour and waterlogging of the city’s road will not cause traffic snarls across the district as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is preparing a traffic plan along with the Gurugram police.

As of now, a sudden diversion of traffic in case of water logging and rain creates a huge traffic mess across the district which also leads to confusion among the commuters.

To deal with this mess in future, the development authority has given an instruction to the deputy commissioner of police traffic to give valuable suggestions by making a traffic plan.

According to the GMDA officials, they have identified around 74 water logging spots across the city. The authority will also analyse the reason which caused the water logging and how long did the water accumulate and how much extra motor had to be installed to drain out the water.

Officials further said a traffic plan will be prepared based on such a report. GMDA will also seek a similar and deep analysed report from the traffic police as well.

“DCP traffic has been asked to make a traffic plan based on the areas of waterlogging. Instead of diverting the route during rain or traffic snarls, the vehicles will already be sent from the new route. This traffic plan is being prepared only on the basis of reports of waterlogging and heavy rain. Once the traffic diversion will be prepared the traffic staff will be deployed according to the plan,” said VS Kundu, chief executive officer GMDA.

Recently despite sufficient traffic police staff were present on the city's multiple stretches for smooth traffic movement but soon after the rain the traffic was diverted on several locations and traffic was disrupted.

“The police will monitor traffic movement following the implementation of the new diversion rule mainly during peak hours, rain and waterlogging across the district. For this initiative our efforts are to reduce travel time and the commuters do not face any problem amid rain or any other reason,” Kundu said.
