A 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at her husband's house on Wednesday in North West Delhi's Bharat Nagar. Police said the deceased has been identified as Shivangi, who got married two months ago to Vipin Sagar.
Police said no suicide note was found but the family of the deceased has alleged foul play by the family of the husaband. The family has alleged harassment of their daughter by her in laws for dowry.
According to a senior police official, the husband of the girl is the brother of one time Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestant Tarun Sagar. The deceased lived with her parents in Wazirpur JJ Colony. " After marriage, Shivangi was being pressurised by her in-laws for more dowry. Unable to bear the torture any longer, she started staying over with her parents," said the police official. On Wednesday night, Shivangi took the extreme step by hanging herself from the ceiling room of her room with her churni.
" When Shivangi's mother came into her room for some work, to her horror, she saw her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan. She immediately informed her husband who made a call to the police," said the police official.
A team was immediately rushed to the spot and the body was bought down. She was then taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
