A Delhi-based businessman died of heart attack after his teenaged daughter was kidnapped by a stalker from Delhi University Metro station in North-West Delhi on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old accused, Sagar Gupta, was following the girl for the last two years or so and girl's attempts to wriggle out of his clutches failed as the stalker used to get her phone and movements details.

On Tuesday afternoon, he forced the girl inside his car at Delhi University Metro station and then molested her. He even took her to her coaching institute at South Extension to mark her attendance. The police, meanwhile, managed to trace the location of the kidnapper, arrested him and rescued the girl.

Police said that the accused is pursuing graduation through correspondence from Delhi University and lives with his parents in Model Town. The girl is preparing for engineering entrance examination and resides with her parents in Vijay Nagar area.

The incident came to light when the girl's father approached the police and informed them that his daughter has been kidnapped. “After registering a kidnapping case, a team was formed under Assistant Commissioner of Police (Model Town sub-division) Shweta Chauhan. With the help of technical surveillance, the police team zeroed on the exact location of the kidnapper and the victim was rescued,” police said.

The father of the girl who was under acute mental stress after the incident, suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby hospital but he could not be saved.

The victim in her statement told the police that she knew the accused since her school days. After she rejected his proposal, her ordeal began as the boy started stalking her.

“She tried to distance herself from him and changed her cell phone number but he used to get her new numbers and harassed her. He was stalking the girl for the last two years and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. He was following her constantly wherever she went,” the officer added Police said on Tuesday afternoon; the accused intercepted the victim when she was going to her coaching classes and again proposed her for a relationship, but she refused.

“He then forcibly pulled her in his car and molested her. He took her to the coaching institute at South Extension and asked her to mark her attendance. It was a well-thought out ploy by the accused to hoodwink the police as he wanted to ensure that the girl was shown present in her coaching classes. But his bluff was soon exposed when the cops who were on his trail got him and rescued the girl,” the officer added. Based on the victim's statement, a case was registered under Sections of 365 (kidnapping), 354 (molestation) and 354-D (stalking) at Mukherjee Nagar police station.
