GDA to decongest traffic in city under ITMS

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has envisaged a plan to decongest the traffic in the city under integrated traffic management system (ITMS).  The need to have ITMS is being felt since many parts of the city witness traffic snarls on regular basis.

GDA Vice Chairperson Kanchan Verma said that the civic agency has identified 50 sensitive points in the city where high tech Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs)’ will be installed to check the traffic.

“In order to make the traffic smooth, a consultant would be appointed to execute the project. Some consultants have shown their interests in the project. The final decision to appoint the consultant would be taken soon,” she said.

The expected project cost to implement ITMS will Rs 58 Crore. Earlier the traffic police had suggested 80 places for installing CCTV cameras but it was reduced to 50 strategic places, a senior GDA official said, adding that the final decision in this regard will be taken soon. The agenda has been drafted that will be tabled in the board meeting on February 28.

In addition to make the city free from traffic jam, the other shortcomings in road infrastructure are also being taken in consideration.  A series of development work will be taken including constructing service lanes alongside major city roads, shifting of electric poles and removing of hutment in these areas within a stipulated period of two months.

The GDA is also planning to construct a cow shelter home (Gaushala) on 18,000 square metre lands in the city, the official said.

The Chief Engineer of Municipal Corporation Mohiddin Khan said that earlier the Municipal Corporation had to build the gaushala in Nandi Park but now it will be developed by GDA as directed by the state administration.  “We have initiated the process and have invited tender for the same. The total cost of both projects would be Rs 79 Crore” he added.
