With the arrest of six people of an inter-state gang, suspected to be run by “Bangladeshis” living in India, Delhi Police claimed to have busted a gang that was involved in several cases of robberies.
The police said all the accused identified as Islam (32), Ikram (30), Sohail (28), Harun (46), Appan (40) and Suttan Sheikh (29) are from Bangladesh and to earn quick money they started robbing houses. The gang members had recently committed several dacoities in Kerala and Bengaluru.
“On the intervening night of 26-27 July a call was received on Police Control Room (PCR) from G Block in Preet Vihar regarding presence of some thieves. Acting on the call a police team rushed and spotted the miscreants trying to hide in a house. One of the police officials asked them to surrender but they tried to run away. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) lokesh tried to catch hold of one of them and was shot at by them in the ensuing scuffle. The bullet hit lokesh on his left shoulder and taking advantage of the bullet injury, the accused managed to flee from the spot. There was cross fire but due to lokesh effort dacoity was foiled,” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East district.
“During investigation, the teams scanned the scene of crime and one of the teams succeeded in obtaining a bag belonging to the assailants from the forest area along railway track which they had dropped while running after cross fire by the Police. The bag contained some vital clues. After tracking leads, teams were dispatched to different locations and soon Ikram was nabbed near Kanpur Central Railway Station,” said DCP.
Adding further the DCP said that two more accused Islam and Sohail were apprehended from Kanpur while other leads helped police nab Appan and other co-accused Suttan and Haroon from Ghaziabad and Delhi.
“During interrogation Ikram revealed that he had lived in Mandawali area of Delhi during his childhood and he had a good knowledge of the topography Delhi. He has been in good contacts with other Bangladeshi boys following which he roped in other members of gang who all are from Bangladesh,” said DCP.
“After committing the crime, the Bangladeshi gang members used to return to their various hideouts. Further investigation is on,” said DCP.
