The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police on Tuesday busted a gang of burglars who used to target houses of Army officers in the Delhi Cantonment area.
DCP (Crime) Bhisham Singh said, “Three men — including a suspended Fitter General Mechanic of the Military Engineering Services — have been arrested. The accused have been identified as Dharambir (54), Deepak (30) and Dheeraj (22).”
Dharambir used to do a recce of the Cantonment area to identify locked residences of Army officers and then facilitated an easy entry of his associates in cantonment area in his car by showing his govt. ID card of MES at sentry posts. Thereafter, the accused persons fled away easily after committing burglaries.
Police said that they have recovered one stolen lED TV, expensive cameras, one golden wrist watch, silver utensils, govt. ID card and I-10 car.
The officer said that in light of the spurt in the incidents of day light burglaries in the in residences of senior Army officers in Cantonment area, the Military Intelligence (MI), after conducting preliminary investigations approached the Crime Branch for a joint operation.
“Taking cognisance, a joint team of officers of Military Intelligence and Crime Branch analysed all the incidents and tried to identify the culprits.
“On the intervening night of March 18 and 19, a team under ACP Aditya Gautam laid a trap arrested the accused from the Dwarka Sector 1 area. the accused were caught in a White i-1- car while they were going to dispose off the stolen articles,” said Singh. During sustained interrogation, the accused, Dharambir (54) disclosed that he was suspended from his job in the Miliray Engineering Services (MES) where he used to work as a Fitter General Mechanic,” said Bhisham Singh.
He revealed that he was first arrested in 1995 when he picked up a fight with a Captain of India Army. Thereafter, he was again arrested in the year 2009 in a robbery case and was lodged in jail where he came in contact with Deepak and formed a gang. After coming out of jail, he started committing burglaries in the houses of Army officers and remained involved in about 18 cases of burglaries etc. He used to facilitate an easy entry in Cantonment area by showing his identity card of MES. Dheeraj, on the other hand is a drug addict and in order to fulfill his requirements of drug addiction, he joined hands with Dharambir through Deepak.
