Delhi Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena on Friday reconstituted the Delhi State Haj Committee for a period of three years with immediate effect. The members of the committee are BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, AAP MLAs Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus, Congress MCD councillor Naziya Danish, Muslim theology expert Mohammad Saad and a member of a Muslim voluntary organisation Kausar Jahan.
However, inclusion of Congress councillor gave a weapon to AAP as it alleged a nexus between BJP and Congress in view of the Mayoral election of the MCD.
AAP leaders claimed that there was a deal between the BJP and the Congress to sabotage the mayoral polls in Delhi. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said the Congress walked out of the before voting for mayor and deputy mayor posts could be held in the MCD House in exchange for a seat on the Haj Committee.
"The deal of Congress and BJP has been exposed. The best case scenario for BJP was to make Congress walk out of house. And Congress has agreed for that. In return, the BJP has made MCD Congress Leader Ms Nazia Danish as the member of Haj Committee," Bharadwaj tweeted.
"The Congress leader of the House in MCD Ms Nazia Danish strikes the deal with BJP. And Congress decides to walk out to help BJP in MCD," the AAP leader added.
Delhi CM said that the LG dictated the names of Delhi Haj Committee and directed the Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to issue notification. Again, this is a transferred subject and only elected govt has the power to constitute Haj Committee. However, the elected govt was bypassed."
Taking the matter to the Twitter, Kejriwal commented, “Hon’ble LG dictated these names n directly got notification issued from officers. No process, no elected govt? Constitution thrown to the winds! Sir, just becoz u control bureaucracy thro “services”, u are able to get all ur illegal directions implemented.”
AAP senior leader Sanjay Singh also connected this to the violence erupted earlier in the day at the first house of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) between the AAP and BJP councilours saying that the Congress and the BJP are involved in this together as all the nine councillor from the Congress party staged a walkout to favour the BJP. “Gautam Gambhir was appointed as per the rule which stated that one Member of Parliament will be elected in the Committee,” it stated.
“MLA, Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus was appointed as two Members of Legislative Assembly of the Delhi Government according to the Delhi State Haj Committee Rules 2006, while Naziya Danish, elected councilour from Zakir Nagar was featured in the committee as the rule states that one Muslim member of the Local Bodies is mandatory,” the order said.
“Mohammad Saad and Kausar Jahan, was also appointed by the L-G as the member of the Haj Committee as the law underlines that one Muslim member having experience in Muslim theology and Law and one Muslim member from Muslim Voluntary Organizations in the field of public administration, finance, education, social work or culture is necessary on the Committee,” the order further stated.
