With the university not passing any clear instructions to colleges regarding the revocation of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), they decided to follow the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) order and sent in a compliance report on Tuesday.

According to principal of Hindu College Pradumn Kumar, there is pressure from the UGC on the colleges because of which they had to send a compliance report as soon as possible. “After the letter colleges received on the weekend, a phone call came from the UGC asking for the compliance report. So, irrespective of what the university’s instructions are, a compliance report has gone to the UGC from my side. We don’t want that the UGC withdraws its grant so we have stuck to the regulation,” said Kumar.

After the meeting of the Principals Association on Monday, all colleges had decided that they would send in a compliance letter to the UGC since the university had not conveyed anything to them. However, on Monday only seven colleges had sent in a compliance report to the UGC stating that they were ready to run the three year undergraduate course. However, on Tuesday 57 colleges sent in their compliance reports.

Some principals are being cautious as well. Principal Miranda House, Dr Pratibha Jolly said, “We have to comply with the UGC but we have intimated them about the fact that the execution of the course would be in accordance to what the university says. We follow the ordinances and no change has been made in them so far. We need some more clarity on the issue.”

The cutoffs for all colleges were supposed to be released on Tuesday, however, all colleges have deferred their admissions till further notice.
