The Delhi Government will shortly start the distribution of five kilogram (kg) of food grain (four kg wheat and one kg rice) per family, free of cost to non-Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries.
Delhi’s Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Imran Hussain said that the distribution will be carried out from one school each in all of the 280 wards of the national Capital.
The Minister directed all food service officers to check the suitability of shortlisted schools falling in their respective jurisdiction and send a report, including the requisite details of heads of the schools to the headquarters at the earliest.
Hussain also directed the officers to ensure that dealers of ‘Fair Price Shops’ (FPS) do not indulge in malpractices such as misbehaviour, diversion of food grains, hoarding, black-marketing, short dispensing of ration etc. He said if any of the dealers were found indulging in such malpractices, strict and swift action would be taken against the erring FPS dealers as per law. Hussain on Tuesday held a meeting through a webinar with officials of the food and supplies department and other senior officials and directed the Assistant Commissioners (F&S), Food and Supplies Officers and Inspectors to make regular field visits.
The Minister conveyed his displeasure about a number of FPSs were found closed during working hours during his recent visits to Shalimar Bagh, Sultanpuri and Mustafabad areas of Delhi.
He directed the field officers to ensure that all the FPSs under their jurisdiction open regularly and on time.
