Financially ailing East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), in a bid to increase its revenue, has decided to organise camps at the ward level, a move to reach out to the people for collecting property tax.
East Delhi Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh has written a letter to all the councillors with instruction to organise three to five camps in each ward. These camps will be organised between July 15 and July 31.
Singh said that the EDMC has extended the last date to July 31, 2018, for availing a rebate of 15% in property tax.
Earlier, Mayor announced a rebate in property tax to neutralise the effect of increased tax rate due to implementation of the recommendations of 3rd Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC).
He said that the rebate in property tax is offered as per the recommendations of 1st Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC-I). As per the new provisions, commercial and non-residential properties of 139.35 square meters or more fall under A category that are granted exemption equivalent to pre-existing MVC-I, he said.
A senior EDMC official said that the rebate is also offered on all industrial properties of B category as per the recommendations of MVC-I. He further said that 100 per cent interest is waived off on the payment of property tax arrears of previous years.
