The Delhi Government is committed to bring State-run schools on par with private schools in the national Capital, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday.

Unveiling the vision and plan for school education for the upcoming academic session, he said, “A lot of work has been done on infrastructure and quality at Government schools. Still they are not on the priority list of parents. I wish that to be the case and we all are working towards it.”

At an interaction with school principals and Education Department officials, Sisodia, who is also the Delhi Education Minister, said there are three questions that need to be answered if the education system is to be improved.

“The clearer the answers are in the mind of teachers, principals and education administrators about the need for education, how to impart it and what to provide as part of it, the more it will improve in Delhi,” he said.

More than 16 lakh students are taking education in Delhi schools whereas approximately 10 lakh students are in Government schools. About 48,000 teachers will receive quality training.

In this academic session, 887 principals of Delhi Government schools will work together on leadership programmes which will further be implemented in classrooms. In education vision 2016 -17, the Government has also added online teacher training platform where thousands of teachers can improve their subjective knowledge under the supervision of experienced teachers.

To maintain school infrastructure, a special mobile application has also been designed to reduce the workload of School Management Committees (SMC).

By using this mobile application, SMCs can upload video footage of basic infrastructure which is in deteriorating condition which needs immediate attention.

While addressing Government teachers and the senior officials of Directorate of Education (DOE), Sisodia said, “We want to give teachers access to high-quality professional development so they can continue to improve throughout their careers.”

Shailendera Kumar Sharma, Principal adviser, Directorate of Education (DOE) said key points of interventions under the education vision are Teachers, Head of  Schools, School Management Committees (SMC) and Education Administrators.

The entire focus has been shifted to mentor teacher and to strengthen teachers.

“We will send them for various training sessions at national and international levels,” said Sharma.
