Throwing daily household garbage at your nearest garbage dump or dhalao may soon burn a hole in your pocket. In a bid to abolish the concept of dhalaos in its area, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) plans to impose heavy fines on fly-tippers, who dump trash outside their houses.
Although the civic body does not have the power to fine people, it is planning to work out a solution in this regard. “As for fining people found to be littering, we have our hands tied as NDMC does not have such power. However, we are approaching the Municipal Magistrate of our area to chalk out an order to punish and levy fine on defaulters,” said Nikhil Kumar, Secretary, NDMC.
“We will be deploying a squad to keep vigil. Not only would they ensure the dirt is cleaned but also will have to spread awareness. Our people shall visit every household, maybe twice a day, for garbage collection right from home,” added Kumar.
