The Capital witnessed one of the worst spell of fog for the season on Wednesday causing disruption in flight services. The fog threw the schedules of 200 flights out of gear, which were delayed and other 22 flights had to be cancelled due to poor visibility conditions. The Met department has predicted of rain on Thursday and Friday.
"Over 236 flights were operated under the low visibility procedures (lVP) which were initiated on both the runways during the day. The visibility remained below 600 metres throughout the day," said a met official in the IGI Airport. The minimum temperature settled three notches above normal at 10.2 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was recorded at 16.5 degrees Celsius.
"We call this Mysterious fog as the fog is lifted due to winds which keep it at higher levels in the atmosphere. It is just hanging above 300 to 400 feet. Thick smog was also reported from 11 am to 5 pm. This had cooled the day temperature to 17-18 degrees Celsius and also warmed night to 9 to 10 degrees Celsius," he added. Humidity levels remained between 85 to 100 per cent.
The MeT department has predicted rains in the coming two days with shallow to moderate fog in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain at 18 and 9 degree Celsius, respectively.
