On the first day of interviews for admission to undergraduate courses at St Stephen’s College on Monday, around 250 candidates were called based on the cut-offs for the courses. The interviews were conducted by four boards for Sanskrit, Economics, English and Physics, respectively.

“I reached the campus in the afternoon and was both excited and nervous about the interview. I was called by the board in the evening and they were very kind to me, unlike what the other candidates said. I was asked a simple question about a topic of my interest; the panel inquired more about my achievements during school days,” said Raghav Mittal from Dehradun, who scored a 96.7 per cent in Class 12 CBSE.

A totally different take was of candidates who gave the interview for Economics. Delhi University called off the requirement of mathematics for Economics Honours course across its colleges, whereas the students here were asked questions based mostly on Mathematics.

The college has eight honours courses and candidates shortlisted in Science and Mathematics disciplines would be selected on 1:6 ratio, while for Humanities, it is 1:4, except Philosophy. “We started the first day at 8am and concluded around 6pm in the evening. The students were quite energetic and responsive. There are many from outside Delhi who were accompanied by their family members,” said KM Mathew, tutor for admissions at the college. Mathew also confirmed that the first list of shortlisted candidates would be of Sanskrit and it will be out on Tuesday, while the other lists would be out on the following day after all the candidates are interviewed. He also explained that the ratio for Philosophy is 1:7 and probably because of the huge demand of the discipline with only 10 seats.

The college has a total of 410 seats with five per cent for admissions under the sports quota. For admissions through Sports, a total of 20 seats would be alloted after a round of interviews for students selected in the sports trials which are being conducted in the college. The interviews would conclude on July 5.

Scanning of OMR forms complete

The Delhi University has completed the scanning of the OMR admission forms. The authorities at the Dean Students’ Welfare Department said that the data has been compiled course-wise and sent across to the colleges to proceed with the cut-offs. “The scanning has been completed and data has been segregated category-wise, like the SC/ST candidates, PWD and General candidates; then put in 34 folders for each college with the respective courses they offer. Now, it is for them to decide the cut-offs,” said Gurpreet Tuteja, the Deputy Dean, Student Welfare of the university. The university received a total of 1,26,704 offline forms for this academic session and the online registrations touched the mark of 1,22,957.

The admissions of the Non-Collegiate for Women's Education Board also started on Monday. The NCWEB has 13 centres out of which the first two — Hansraj College and lakshmi Bai College — admitted students on the basis of the first cut-off list.

At Hansraj College, 201 students were taken in BA programme and 163 in BCom, and at lakshmi Bhai College 195 were admitted to BA and 122 in BCom.
