For the fascination of children and adults alike, the Swarn Jayanti Park in Rohini will soon have a fighter jet plane on display. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finalised and procured a MiG (Mikoyan Gurevich)-23 aircraft from the authorities concerned, which will be installed in the garden, commonly known as Japanese park.

“The MiG-23 aircraft in the park will be something for everyone to watch out for. It will be installed right at the centre of the park, near the exhibition ground, and will be on display by end of August. We have got clearance from the Government as well as the airport authority. People will now be able to see how a fighter jet looks like,” said a DDA official. The platform for installation of the airframe has already been constructed, he added. However, it will be only the frame of the airplane that will be set in the park.

Apart from this, in a move to rejuvenate the Swarn Jayanti Park, the DDA has decided to introduce several new attractions in it. Creating different kinds of parks within the garden has been finalised. “We are planning to make a signature park for children which will be located near gate number 4. It will be designed keeping in view the latest playing needs of the children. Moreover, we have dwelt upon making a couple of theme parks which would include bonsai, cactus, and butterfly gardens to name a few,” the official said.

Animal topiaries at Talkatora Park soon

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also decided to create animal topiaries in Talkatora Park for which materials are being brought from places like Netherlands and Japan.

“Our animal topiaries will be very different from others; we will make them look like real. The trees, shrubs and flowers will be chosen in such a way that their colours correspond to the original colours of the animals,” said HK Pachauri, Director Horticulture, NDMC, adding the frames to bring the shape of animals have been designed taking a cue from topiaries in Japan.

“We have finalised six animal topiaries. There will be an elephant, a cow, a camel and a giraffe, each with its calves. Then there will be a deer with fawns and a bear with cubs placed on the branches of a tree,” he added.

However, the park is expected to be ready by November as preparation of land may take two months and the topiaries another two months.
