The teachers at the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) are worried with the very thought that the institute that had carved a niche for itself will lose its brand value once separated from Delhi University (DU).
Once NSIT takes the shape of State University, it will definitely impact the academic and placement features of the institution, they said.
The NSIT as a State University has been cleared by the Delhi Assembly but the matter is pending with lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, who is the Chancellor of State Universities.
“For any institution, the syllabus is its strongest point. The University of Delhi is popular for the content which is being taught to the students. When the NSIT will be part of State University, the effect on the course curriculum will also effect automatically,” said Professor RS Thakur of the NSIT.
“The DU is an old institution and carries worldwide reputation. The colleges of DU follow the University norms, especially in academia,” said a senior NSIT Professor.
“There is a question to Delhi State Government: Do they have some plans to create infrastructure, faculties and student placements,” said another NSIT professor, adding, that the State Government is playing with the future of the students and the teachers.
Earlier, 72-year-old Delhi Technical University (DTU) that was also part of DU now has been established as the State University.
