Staff Reporter

The 19th floor of a skyscraper in Sector 143 of Greater Noida collapsed due to faulty design and use of sub-standard material resulting in the death of three labourers, while four others sustained grievous injuries. Police have registered a case of negligence causing death at Surajpur Police station, but no arrests have been made as yet.

Police said that the incident took place around 10:30 am when seven people were working at an under-construction multi-storey building of logix Blossom Green Project of Ahluwalia Contractors. All of them fell from the 19th floor.

Three died on the spot, while the injured ones were taken to the nearby Navin Hospital in Greater Noida where their condition is said to be critical. The deceased have been identified as Sanoj Mukhiya (20), Sakulu Mukhiya (21) and Ravi Kumar (26), all residents of Bihar, who were temporarily living in Surajpur. Police officers remained tight-lipped about the condition of the injured and the action they intend to initiate against the owner of the site.

The eyewitnesses said that all seven had gone on the 19th floor to construct the roof, but the whole structure plunged and the workers were found lying in a pool of blood on the ground.

“It seems that the entire structure collapsed while the labourers were erecting the roof. The employees of the construction site fled the spot soon after the incident,” said another labourer working at the same site. A case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the owner of the company has been registered, said Brajesh Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Greater Noida.
