Four members of a family, including a woman, her two daughters, and her elder brother, were killed in a road accident in Gurugram's Sohna area on Tuesday around 8.30 pm when a speeding dumper collided with the motorcycle on which they were travelling, police said on Wednesday.

The woman's one-year-old son Zaid, who was also travelling with them, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Sohna. The driver of the Scorpio suffered minor injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Afsana (28), her brother, Irshad (30), and her two daughters, Saima and Ayat, both of whom were under 5. The accident occurred while they were travelling from Dungarpur to Dhoj, said police.

The driver of the dumper — suspected to have been responsible for another accident in Faridabad, which occurred only fifteen minutes earlier — abandoned his vehicle and is still absconding.

“A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the driver at Sohna police station. The driver is yet to be identified. “We have seized the dumper and are trying to identify the errant driver. The bodies have been handed over to the family members after the post-mortem examination  A team has been tasked to find the driver”, said Inspector Harender Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sohna police station.
