Expect Centre to support us in fight against graft: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday reiterated his commitment to creating a corruption-free city and thanked his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar for his support on anti-graft measures undertaken by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government.

Kejriwal shared his views via a series of tweets. “We are grateful to Nitish Kumar for supporting Delhi Government’s anti-corruption efforts. We are also in touch with some other State Governments.”

“We had sought some officers from Delhi Police about a month back. We hope the Hon’ble l-G will direct Delhi Police to send them soon. We are fully committed to making Delhi India’s first corruption-free State. We hope the Central Government will also support our efforts,” the tweet added.

Three inspectors and two sub-inspectors of Bihar Police have joined the elite Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) following a request by AAP Government to Bihar, a move seen as an effort to reduce the anti-graft body’s reliance on Delhi Police.

However, this move sparked another altercation between the AAP Government in the national Capital and lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, with the Raj Niwas stating that the anti-graft body functions are under the ‘authority, control and supervision’ of the lieutenant Government and he has not received any proposal from the State Government. When controversy erupted, one DSP rank officer, who was supposed to join the ACB, refused citing health reasons.

Nitish Kumar enjoys cordial relationship with Kejriwal. Kumar had a lunch with Kejriwal in Delhi when he had become the Delhi Chief Minister. Earlier, Kejriwal had sent a congratulatory message to Kumar on his becoming Chief Minister for the fourth time on February 22 this year.
