The death of 32-year-old business executive Siddhartha Sharma after allegedly being hit by a speeding car in north Delhi’s posh Civil lines area has left his family members crestfallen.

The incident took place around 8.45 pm on Monday when the victim, Sharma, who was to fly to the United States on April 13 as his marketing firm had sponsored him for an official tour, was crossing the road near ludlow Castle School when a Mercedes hit him, a senior police official said.

Talking to The Pioneer, Divay one of Sharma’s relatives said, “He was a friendly person and always used to keep others happy. His parents were in Himachal Pradesh when this incident took place and his married sister was in Mumbai. He had gone for counseling in 2015 to locate a best institute in South Delhi for his further studies when I recommended him about Modi- ATI Academic Institute (MAAI).”

Sharma was to hold an academic presentation before former IPl commissioner lalit Modi’s sister Charu Modi, promoter and shareholder of the KK Modi group on Tuesday. Also, he was enrolled in Stratford University’s joint venture with KK Modi group named as MAAI, located in South Delhi’s lajpat Nagar since 2015.

Sharma was living with his family in White House Apartments located in Yamuna Marg of Civil lines area. He is survived by his father Hemraj Sharma, mother Madhu Sharma and wife Sonam.  “Sharma had previously worked at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre with the profile of Consultant,” said a relative, adding, “He left that job two years back.”

“He was such a brilliant student that MAAI had provided him with a job in a private firm as a consultant,” added Divay.

Sharma’s family members have alleged foul play in the procedure of police action against the accused. A Mercedez Car, owned by a Delhi-based businessman Manoj Agarwal, had hit Sharma.

According to police, passersby said the car was being driven at a speed of at least 80 km per hour and that they had seen at least five youths, aged between 20 and 25 years, stepping out of the vehicle after the accident.

The accused fled from the scene, leaving the car behind.

Police were told that two bikers had a narrow escape from the car seconds before it knocked down Sharma. Meanwhile, police have impounded the car and tracked the owner, a businessman who resides in Civil lines area. From preliminary investigation, it appears that he was not the one driving the car last evening, the official said. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered at Civil lines police station. No arrest has been made so far.
