In yet another case of misdemeanor witnessed at domestic terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), a 43-year-old aircraft maintenance engineer of an aviation agency was held for allegedly creating nuisance and thrashing a staff of Indigo Airline.

The accused was soon overpowered by the security personnel and handed over to police. While manhandling the staff of the airline, when other passengers tried to stop the accused, he misbehaved with them as well.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of IGIA, Sanjay Bhatia, said the accused, Brij Raj, is a resident of South West Delhi's Dwarka and investigation has been taken up. "A Daily Diary (DD) entry was made at the Domestic Airport Police Station and the accused was arrested and later released on bail by the police," said the DCP. The incident had taken place on Saturday, he added.

A police officer involved in the investigation said that the accused has a history of violence.  "Brij Raj was earlier arrested for allegedly thrashing a police personnel in Dwarka. A case in this respect was also lodged against him," the officer said.

The officer further said that Brij was trying to board India Airline that was bound to take off for Jaipur in Rajasthan. The crew of Indigo airline asked Brij to wait, as they had to get some paper signed with the captain.

This made Brij Raj angry and he had a heated argument with the crew-member. The argument soon ensued into a scuffle.

"Brij allegedly started beating up the crew member who called for help. Other crew members and security staff rushed to his rescue. The accused  was finally overpowered and handed over to us. He was bookwed under sections  22(1), 23(1)(b), 25 of Air Craft rules read with section 11-A of Air Craft Act," the officer said.

The officer further said that Brij works for an aviation agency which looks after the maintenance of air-crafts.  Indigo Airline has also lodged a complaint against him. Further investigation the matter is underway.
