With the announcement of the schedule for the by-election in Ellenabad Assembly constituency of Sirsa district, Abhay Singh Chautala, the former MLA from Ellenabad in a press conference held at his residence in Gurugram on Tuesday said that with this election, the political equations of Haryana will change.
He also said that this election will reveal who is against the three agriculture laws and who is in support.
The former MLA also asserted that who will be the candidate of Indian National Lokdal (INLD), will be decided by the people of Ellenabad on 3rd October.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, a notification will be issued on October 1 and the nomination process will start on the same day. The last date for filing nominations is October 8. The nominations will be scrutinised on October 11 and the last date for withdrawing them is October 16. Polling will be held on October 30 for the Ellenabad constituency.
Political experts said the bypoll will be a litmus test not only for the ruling BJP-JJP coalition but also for the INLD and the Congress.
As per the norms, the by-election was necessitated after INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala resigned from the Assembly on January 27 in support of the ongoing farmers’ agitation.
Chautala alleged that an effort was made by the ruling BJP and JJP to postpone the by-election of the Ellenabad seat.
"Ellenabad by-election should have been held along with Bengal elections. The ruling government had given an excuse for the outbreak of Corona to delay the bypoll election because they had realized if elections will held, the security of their candidate would have been forfeited. At present people of the state did not allow BJP-JJP leaders to enter their village," Chautala said.
"Ellenabad is a rural assembly and is an area of farmers and our farmer's brothers are. constantly opposing the three agricultural laws. The farmers of Ellenabad told me to resign from the post of MLA so I resigned, he said adding that, If Congress MLAs had also resigned with me, there would have been mid-term elections today, not by-elections now".
Chantal also asserted that the people of Ellenabad will also give a befitting reply to the Congress candidate.
"This by-election is not for INLD, this by-election is against three agricultural laws," be added.
