Eleven district committees to deal with Metro area upkeep

To address the issue of waterlogging at Metro stations and for upkeep of the circulatory area, 11 committees — headed by a District Commissioner — have been formed.

Formed on the directions of Chief Secretary DM Spolia, they will meet once a month to address and coordinate with various civic agencies and police. The Metro stations had experienced the issue of waterlogging recently.

The district-level committees will address problems of cleanliness and upkeep (including water-logging) at Metro stations on a regular basis. “The committees will take up issues in a coordinated manner. The issues of Metro stations on all corridors falling in each district will be dealt by each committee. They will coordinate with the Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and traffic police,” said a senior Government officer.

During its board meeting on July 22, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had urged the civic bodies to maintain the circulatory area of Metro stations for the convenience of passengers.

At least two Metro stations were water-logged on July 20, when the city recorded the third heaviest downpour in the last 10 years. Operations were severely affected at Malviya Nagar and Terminal 3 Metro Station. Saket had to shut down due to water outside the station. “Being the nodal agency for DMRC, the Transport Department has forwarded concerns to local bodies,” he added.
