In a bid to encourage electors to participate in the electoral process, Central district election office has organised a camp to enrol the homeless and transgender from Central Delhi under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP).

A special camp was organised at a night shelter located at Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk Assembly constituency.

According to officials, the response was positive; a total of 75 homeless and nine transgender voters filled up form no. 6 for enrolment in the electoral rolls. The camp was organised in collaboration with NGOs Butterfly and Naaz. Similar camps will be organised to increase voting percentage in the forthcoming Assembly election.

Similarly, West district election officer has organised a live performance by the band Jazba at Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar to increase awareness in young voters about the December 4 Delhi Assembly polls.

Addressing the people on the occasion, Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev drew parallels between festivals and elections saying they too should bring us out of our homes to exercise our right for our democracy so that the Government that comes to power is a Government chosen by the people and for the people.
