In a recent case of crime against senior citizens in the national Capital, a 71-year-old Director of an environmental equipment manufacturing company and his wife were allegedly held captive at knife point at their residence in South Delhi’s South Campus and robbed of cash and valuables worth `3 lakh.

Police said that the incident took place at Shanti Niketan area in the house of 71-year-old Chandrashekhar Umre, Director of Indian Environmental Equipment Company on Thursday when after the two maids left his house, two unidentified men rang the door bell, entered the house and two more followed them.

As per the complainant, Chandrashekhar and his wife Urvashi were alone at their house at the time of the robbery. ‘On Thursday afternoon, after the two maids left the house after work, the men who were wearing mask came and pointed knife at Chandrashekhar and his wife. Following which, the accused then tied Chandrashekhar and his wife with a rope and allegedly dragged them from one room to another and asked them to hand them all the cash. The complainant then handed over `3 lakh cash and some jewellery to the accused,’ said a senior police officer.

After the accused fled, the complainant made a call to the PCR after which a team of local police rushed to the spot.

Police said that they went through the CCTV footage of the house and the nearby area to establish the identity of the accused. Meanwhile, police also suspect the role of the two women maids — Ganga and Geeta — who work at the house of the complainant. ‘Fifteen minutes before the accused barged into the house to commit robbery, these two women allegedly left the place,’ said police sources.

Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the South Campus police station. Further investigation is still on.
