Education Dept moves apex court against HC's Dec 10 interim order

SR

The Education Department on Friday appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court’s interim December 10 order on nursery admissions leaving a cloud of uncertainty over nursery admissions for yet another year.

The High Court had earlier quashed the points system issued by the lieutenant Governor on November 28 and permitted schools to form their own guidelines for nursery admission this season. With this matter now gone up to the Supreme Court, the Action Committee Unaided Recognised Private Schools was advised by the advocate of the Directorate of Education (DoE) to not initiate or go ahead with the admission process for the academic session 2015-16 till Supreme Court’s verdict on the same is out. The letter undersigned by Advocate Vivek Kumar Tandon said, “I have been instructed to convey that the DoE has decided to prefer Special leave Petition in the Supreme Court against the interim order dated December 10 of the division bench of HC in which the Court did not grant a stay on the order dated November 28. As the SC is under vacation till January 5, 2015 and the matter will come up for hearing after the winter vacations, it is hereby informed that the Private Unaided Recognised Schools may not initiate and may not go ahead with the admission process in the entry level classes for the academic session 2015-16 till the matter is decided by the SC so as not to prejudice the outcome of said SlP.”
