DUTA protests against HRD Ministry

The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) on Thursday demonstrated against the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) demanding better job security and withdrawal of reforms in higher education at the Delhi University.

“The MHRD policies are unjust and inequitable. They are adversely affecting the academic health of Delhi University and rapidly bringing down its reputation. The Government has been deliberately evading the issue pertaining to the indefinite stalling of permanent appointments in the University,” said Amar Deo Sharma, president of DUTA.

He alleged that the MHRD has not insisted on the implementation of UGC’s 2006 Guidelines for Reservations in all entry-level posts. “By not doing so, the Government has openly displayed its bias against SCs, STs and OBCs. Despite getting reservation in Higher Education their hope of getting jobs in the future are shattered. The twin issues of anomalies arising out of the 6th Pay-Revision and the inordinate delay in the fixation of Service Conditions has created distrust amongst the aspiring teaching staff for the Government. After repeated representations to the MHRD, it has failed to ensure sense of security of retired teachers,” Sharma added.
