One of the four Delhi University students, who was severely injured after a cab in which she was travelling rammed into a truck in Noida, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning. She was battling for life for the last five days in Noida’s Kailash Hospital.

The deceased identified as Kaayum Krishna Pegu (20), a native of Guwahati, Assam, was an English Honours student at Miranda House.

Kaayum was admitted to a Noida hospital with fractures in head and ribs on September 23. “She was declared dead around 8 am on Wednesday. The girl was brought to the hospital in a critical condition with severe head and lung injuries. The doctors had shifted her in intensive care unit (ICU) where she was being treated for the last five days. But, the victim did not respond to the medical treatment and succumbed to her injuries,” said VB Joshi, spokesperson, Kailash Hospital.

According to police, Pegu along with her three friends — who were travelling in an Uber cab from Greater Noida to Delhi — had met with an accident at Sector-16A. They were returning after celebrating a friend’s birthday in Greater Noida when the accident took place. Police said that the survivors alleged that the driver was speeding and did not slow down despite repeated requests.
