Delhi University (DU) is likely to open fresh admissions to the new courses which received the approval of the Academic Council and Executive Council recently.
However, the officials who spoke about the possibility of new admissions have said the strategy of the selection criteria is yet to be discussed. They said the colleges that had been demanding the approval for new courses, are demanding to start off the courses from this session.
“There are some 14 colleges that got a nod for starting new courses from the Standing Committee, Academic Council and Executive Council. There is a possibility that colleges would start these courses from this session,” said one of the DU officials.
Initially, the Standing Committee, chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Sudhish Pachauri, had approved new courses for colleges like Khalsa College, Ramanujan College, Gargi College, Kalindi College, Aryabhatta College, Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Bharti College and Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce.
“Now the question is how admissions in these courses would take place. The notification is yet to come so one can’t confirm it officially. The University will notify it only after a decision on how to go about the admissions would be taken,” the official said, adding that there are officials who are not of the opinion to start these courses from this session since a lot of time has already passed.
“But the colleges that were demanding new courses are pushing for starting them from this academic session. The final decision is yet to be taken.”
The sanctioned strength for science courses has been set at 32, while 40-46 students can be admitted to Arts and Commerce programmes.
While Forensic Science may be offered at SGTB Khalsa College, St Stephen’s college may start Political Science (Honours). Dean of Students’ Welfare, JM Khurrana refused to comment over it.
