A Delhi University (DU) lecturer was one of the four accused who were arrested by Delhi Police in separate cases of rape reported in the city during last 48 hours.
The DU lecturer has been identified Virender Singh, who taught Political Science at Satyawati College in the North Campus. He was arrested from Rohini in the Outer district. He had allegedly raped an engineering student on the pretext of marrying her. His bluff was caught as the victim read his real intentions and reported the matter to the local police.
A police official said that the accused teacher is in the Political Science faculty at Satyawati College. He was held after the victim approached the KN Katju Marg police station on Monday. The girl was taken to a hospital for medical examination where rape was confirmed. The accused was arrested and produced before the concerned magistrate at Rohini courts and later sent to judicial custody to Tihar Jail.
In the second incident, a 21-year-old girl alleged her former live-in partner raped her. The matter was reported from west Delhi’s Nangloi area. The victim alleged that had been living with Jai Prakash at a rented house for the last years. The problem started when the woman started to ask the accused Jai to marry her but he refused and deserted her, said a police officer. Jai has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Two more rape incidents were reported from south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur area.
In the first incident, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father’s co-worker. The victim stays with her family. The accused, Bablu, works as a painter with the girl’s father. It has been learnt that Bablu came to the victim’s house on late Wednesday night. “When he found the girl alone, Bablu sexually assaulted her and fled,” a police officer said. He also beat her when she resisted. Bablu has been caught by the police.
In another incident reported from Pul Prahladpur area, a youth was arrested for raping a 21-year-old after promising to marry her. The accused has been identified as Rais and arrested on the charges of rape and criminal breach of trust.
