Staff Reporter

In the Executive Council (EC) meeting of Delhi University (DU) members raised  a plethora of issues, including the burning issue of Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) that has emerged as a bone of contention between the students and the varsity administration. The EC members raised these issue and other agenda items after a long stalemate.

EC member Rajesh K Jha raised the issue of contractual appointment of teachers at DSJ, high fee structure and self-finance mode of the courses at the Journalism school, issue of infrastructure at DSJ among other issues. "We wanted to know why the university did not pursue the EC's decision of making a separate Department of Journalism," said Jha. He also raised the issues of revision of pension, absorption and counting of past services.

Jha also raised the burning issue of Dyal Singh College where the Chairman of Governing Body (GB) Amitabh Sinha and College principal IS Bakshi are at "loggerheads" with each other. While the GB has initiated graft enquiry against the principal and advised him to avoid coming to college pending enquiry, Bakshi has defied the GB orders and is up-in-arm against the Chairman.

Among the agenda items for the meeting is the "contentious" issue of the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has to be signed among MHRD, UGC, and the third party i.e. DU with the objective to assess and facilitate the performance of the University on "selected key parameters against the targets set so as to incrementally improve the performance of the University".
