The Delhi University (DU) on Monday declared the results of centralised fitness test for admissions under sports quota and sent the results to all DU colleges. Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) has uploaded the result of each candidate on DU website to maintain the transparency; however the total number of qualified sports persons is not mentioned by the Sports Council. Those, who cleared the fitness test, would be eligible for the main trials under the sports category. Many DU colleges will start their main sports trials on Tuesday.
“We have uploaded the result of each sports person individually so that no discrepancy will happen. The same result in the form of hard copy has been given to the DU colleges,” Said Anil Kalkal, Secretary, DU Sports Council. “24 hours was bit a challenge for us to declare the results. Though we tried to maintain the fairness in the results, but in any case, if sports persons show disagreement with the result or in further college trial, he/she can directly reach us with their complaint,” Kalkal added.
From June 23, many DU colleges will start their sports trials. Nearly 2,700 seats out of 54,000, which is five per cent of total DU-undergraduate courses are reserved for sports quota. As per the sports council authority, as many as 4,100 students/sports persons have registered themselves for the fitness trial. Out of them 1,050 sports persons are women and 3,050 were male.
The university conducted a centralised fitness trial test this year to remove bottleneck and also ensure fair play. “The effort and idea to make fitness trial centralised was good. But it was difficult for the sports council for this time to manage the crowd. There were no proper arrangements for the aspirants,” said an official.
“It is expected that from next year, colleges will conducted their separate fitness tests as it was happened in past years,” source added. This year, the fitness test was comprised of 50- meter run, standing broad jump and 1,000 meter run in within given time frame. These games also include the indoor games like chess.
