Tension prevailed in southeast Delhi’s Badarpur area on Wednesday morning after people protested against the police inaction in cracking a resident’s murder case.
At least half-a-dozen buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) were vandalised by a mob, besides a few private vehicles parked at Badarpur bus terminus, according to police. To bring the situation under control, Delhi Police said it resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the agitating crowd that had gathered in huge numbers on the Badarpur road connecting Faridabad.
Police said extra force too was deployed. The violent incident triggered massive traffic jams on Mathura road causing inconvenience to commuters who were left stranded for hours, said sources.
The problem started after residents expressed their unhappiness over the way police were tackling murder case of a local resident identified as Manik Singh who was allegedly killed by some local boys on Tuesday.
The protestors said police have arrested only one person while four more were involved. A case, however, was registered against unknown persons for damaging public property.
