In an act of bravery, three NCC cadets on Friday saved a middle-aged woman from drowning who was said to have jumped off DND flyover into the Yamuna river in an apparent suicide bid.
According to an official statement here, the incident occurred at around 11.30 am as the NCC cadets of 2 Delhi Naval Unit under Delhi Directorate were on a routine training mission along with three boats, including a rescue dinghy. During the exercise, the unit’s Rescue and Safety boat, under the command of Petty Officer AK Sharma, noticed that a middle-aged woman had jumped into the Yamuna from the DND flyover.
Seeing she was about to drown, the rescue boat immediately rushed to her and three cadets, identified as Vikash, Ashish and Rahul, managed to pull the woman aboard the rescue dinghy. The incident was immediately reported by the unit control room. The CO of the unit, Capt (IN) RS Dahiya, along with one more staffer and boat operator, thereafter rushed to the scene of the incident in a second rescue boat.
The woman was administered CPR (colloquially the kiss of life) after which she regained consciousness. She has been handed over to a police team which came in a PCR van.
