A dreaded contract killer and extortionist who was wanted in more than 30 cases has been arrested by the Crime Branch, police said on Friday.
Gaurav Kohli alias Rajeev (32) was arrested on Wednesday from Bhalswa Dairy area after a tip off. “Kohli, an associate of Sandeep Mental was presently leading the gang, as Sandeep is lodged in Tihar Jail. The gang was preparing to eliminate other criminals and land grabbers of the area to establish their hegemony,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
The desperado is involved in as many as 30 cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery. Eight such cases have been worked out with his arrest. A Toyota Etios car stolen from Hauz Khas area has also been recovered, he said. On October 31, one leela was shot dead by some unknown assailants in Najafgrah area. During investigation, Gaurav Kohli and his associates were found to be involved in the murder and the incident was part of an internecine gang war.
Recently, one of the gang members Sanjay alias Khera was shot dead in Noida court premises. “On Wednesday, a specific input was received that Gaurav Kohli is residing in the area of Bhalswa Dairy following which a raid was conducted and he was apprehended from a rented room and a Toyota Etios car, stolen from Hauz khas area was recovered at his instance,” said Yadav.
During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed his involvement in the commission of murder of leela with his associates, he said. Taking into account his criminal profile, proposal for declaration of Rs 25,000 on his arrest had already been initiated by the South-West district police.
