Don't touch me until blessed by Asaram Bapu: Bride tells spouse

SP Singh

A Ghaziabad-based disciple of Asaram Bapu refused to consummate her marriage on grounds of having taken dikshha from Asaram. “Don’t touch me,” cautioned the bride to her husband. After having failed to convince her, the husband severed marital relations with the disciple. Police are trying to counsel them.

“I cannot proceed with you unless we are blessed by the guru. His permission is mandatory before we establish conjugal relations since I have gone through a renunciation ceremony and it would require at least two to three days to be blessed by the guru,” Rohit Jain, the husband of the disciple, quoted his betrothed.

“Around 2.00 am, she started chanting mantras seated on the floor. An hour later, she started listening to her guru’s discourse on her cell phone. I pretended to be asleep,” said Rohit, a real estate agent.

The next morning she called her brother, who took her to their father’s house. She did not keep in touch after that. “It is evident that she is deeply hypnotised by Asaram, so I decided to divorce her, but suddenly we learnt that she had lodged a complaint with the police and on September 30, a phone call came. The caller asked me to reach Mediation Centre on October 1, 2013. I attended, but the hearing was adjourned and October 3 was fixed for the next date of hearing. On the second hearing, SP (Traffic) Kiran Yadav instructed me to take her home. However, when I protested, she fixed the next date of hearing on October 15,” added the husband. The SP said that merely being an adherent of Asaram was not a crime. “She believes in her guru and liberty of religion has to be given to her by all means,” Yadav said.
