A day after the Delhi Police arrested the 40-year-old peon, Vikas, of Tagore Public school for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl inside the school in East Delhi's Gandhi Nagar on Saturday afternoon, the minor girl’s family told The Pioneer that despite repeated attempts to seek help from the school authorities, no one came forward to help.
"I called her class teacher in the evening. I told her that doctors have informed that my daughter has been raped. However, she outrightly refused to help. Before calling on 100, I called her again and she said do not blow up the matter it will ruin the school's reputation," said the victim’s father.
Sitting in their second floor home, mother of the five-year-old victim said, "My daughter returned home at around 2:30 pm and started crying. When I asked her, she refused to open up. After I persisted, I saw blood oozing from her private parts. I then informed my husband and we took her to Chacha Nehru hospital but doctors refused to treat her. They said the injuries she has suffered are not minor and we need to inform police. later they confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted. Since we reached Chacha Nehru hospital at around 5 pm, we stayed there for close to an hour.
"The hospital administration refused to offer us an ambulance to take the child to another hospital. It was much later, at around 7 pm that we left and took an auto and went over to the lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital. Here the doctors too confirmed that our child has been raped and told us to inform police," said the distraught mother.
At around 9.25 pm, police was informed. Doctors treated our child and discharged her on Sunday morning.
Investigators said the accused arrested on Saturday night is a father of two teenage children and hails from Jharkhand. The victim identified the accused through the red cap which he was wearing. She said he had threatened my daughter not to reveal about the incident to anyone.
"At the time of the arrest, he was watching TV at his home and was drunk. The school authorities informed us that the accused was working in the school for past three years. Some time back, a teacher had complained against Vikas alleging that he misbehaved with her but soon after, the teacher resigned," said a senior police officer, privy to the investigation.
Police further said before being employed by the school, Vikas had worked in two other schools.
“The accused took the girl to an empty classroom and raped her.”
The incident came to light a day after a seven-year-old boy's throat was slit by a bus conductor of a Gurugram school for allegedly resisting sexual assault — an incident that sent shock waves across the country.
