Don't attend Govt functions sans nod, NMC tells staff

Taking on the AAP Government, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has asked its staff and councilors not to attend functions of the Delhi Government departments. The corporation, after passing a resolution, said that if unavoidable or protocol has to maintain, the civic body staff will have to seek permission from the NMC’s top offices and bypassing the resolution will invite administrative action.

NMC Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar ordered the Commissioner to issue an order to disallow its staffers to attend Government functions. “I order Commissioner to issue letter asking corporation officials not to attend function without prior permission. If (protocol) exists, either Mayor’s or Commissioner’s office will decided whether to allow or not. If any official found not obeying the order, action will be taken as per the existing act,” said the Mayor, adding the allegation of manhandling Additional Deputy Commissioner Raj Rani by Minister Sandeep Kumar is being probed and if substantiated NMC will approach police to initiate penal action against him.

Commissioner PK Gupta explained that the officials/staff are responsible for Corporation first hence Corporation should be their first priority. If any other body writes letter seeking presence of MCD officials in their own function, it is the Corporation which will decided whether to give permission or not.

AAP MlA from Sadar Bazar Somdutt, however, said that resolution is being passed with political vendetta as the Government has never passed any resolution to restrain its officials from cooperating with the civic agencies. “I condemn the move as it is politically motivated. We will oppose it at appropriate manner,” said the MlA.

Introducing the resolution before the House of the NMC, Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar said that AAP lawmakers have been involved in manhandling, humiliation and sometimes scuffle with the MCD staff and councillors since assuming the power. They not just summon MCD staff without any permission to attend functions but start humiliating publicly.
