Don't vote for those who want to stop work: CM

Staff Reporter

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged people not to vote for those who want to stop the development and welfare work in the city in the forthcoming civic body polls. Speaking at the MCD poll campaign in central Delhi's Paharganj, he talked about his Government's intervention in building schools and hospitals as well as providing free electricity and water. He further urged people to vote for those who work for Delhi, not those who stop works in Delhi.

He also claimed a conspiracy by the BJP to stop the free supply of power to Delhi residents. "They (BJP) have hatched a conspiracy. But Kejriwal won't let them succeed," he added. “Is free electricity your right or revdi? They want to stop free electricity in Delhi but dont worry, till Kejriwal is alive, electricity will be free. Till your son is alive, till your brother is alive, your electricity will be free.”

He launched the AAP’s campaign for the MCD polls  with the slogan “Sarkar Kejriwal Ki, Parsad Kejriwal Ka”.

The chief minister alleged that the BJP, which has ruled the civic body for 15 years and is seeking a fourth term, is planning to create another garbage mountain in Delhi. Kejriwal was accompanied by his deputy Manish Sisodia. The event was disrupted by protesting Anganwadi workers and helpers.

The Chief Minister said, 'I have not come to lecture you today, I've come to talk to you. Who is responsible for picking up garbage in Delhi? Who is responsible for cleaning Delhi? A lot of people have a wrong impression. Some people tell me you have fixed schools, hospital, made mohalla clinic, why haven't you fixed the garbage problem in the city. I told him I'm not responsible for cleaning the garbage in the city. Give us one chance this time, we will clean Delhi also.'

The chief minister said the BJP is "planning" to create another garbage mountain at Basant Road."They (BJP) will collect garbage from Karol Bagh and throw it on Basant Road. There will be a garbage mountain within a year. There will be a foul smell in the entire area, and mosquitoes and flies will breed at the landfill site."I guarantee you that we will not let them create a garbage mountain at any cost," he said

He, however, rued that the dispensation could not do much for improving sanitation in the city as he said "the responsibility of the same lies with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)".

"In our tenure, we improved schools and hospitals, provided free electricity and water besides installing CCTVs and building 'mohalla clinics', but we feel sad that we could not do anything about improving sanitation as it is the responsibility of MCD. "Give us one chance to clean Delhi.

We will deliver results," he said. The AAP supremo also promised to not allow "garbage of mountains in Delhi". He, however, rued that the dispensation could not do much for improving sanitation in the city as he said "the responsibility of the same lies with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)".

He also hit out at office of Lieutenant Governor and the BJP for hindering work of the Delhi government. "The BJP has deployed L-G sahib to stop my work. Do not vote for those who stop progress of Delhi," he said. Exuding confidence of winning December 4 MCD polls, Kejriwal said, "We will win MCD polls, it is just that we want to see how many seats we get.

"You gave me 67 out of 70 seats in assembly elections. I am fond of the taste of such victories. I do not want anything less than that," he said.

With top BJP leaders all set to hold road shows on Sunday, Kejriwal said the BJP will mount an “attack” on the national capital with their “kings and emperors” and that the citizens will give them a “befitting response”. In a tweet, Kejriwal said, “The BJP will mount an attack in Delhi today with their kings and emperors. However, the people of Delhi have bravely faced the attacks of BJP and its LG in the past and similarly, the citizens will give them a befitting reply today as well.”
