A 20-year-old domestic help has alleged that she was raped by her employer in Central Delhi's Patel Nagar area. A senior police officer on Thursday said that the incident came to light after the young girl, a native of Malda district in West Bengal, approached the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW). The senior police officer said that the young woman was rescued by the collaborative efforts of an NGO, DCW and the Delhi Police.

Following the rescue, police on Thursday said that a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Patel Nagar police station. The accused is absconding.

As per the version of the 20-year-old woman, she has alleged that she was raped multiple times by her employer. She added that she has been working at her employer's place for the past three months. Police said that the DCW received information about the plight of the woman through the NGO, Shakti Vahini, following which a rescue operation was carried out with the help of the local police on July 29.

The DCW official said lodging an FIR took some time as the woman could not speak any other language apart from her mother tongue, Bengali. An interpreter had to be summoned from the Banga Bhawan, following which the victim's statement was recorded by the police, the official added
