Doctors’ Association to stage protest

SUGANDHA

Not satisfied with the promises made by Delhi Health Department on Tuesday, Resident Doctors' Associations of seven Delhi Government Hospitals have decided not to indulge in routine services including OPD, ward duties and elective surgeries on indefinite basis from Wednesday to mark their protest.

The Resident Doctors are demanding timely payment of salaries and increments as per 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

"In minutes of the meeting, it was told that directions have been issued to respective Medical Directors of the hospitals to address the problems at institution level but we haven't got any written order. In absence of that, we have decided to go on strike," said Dr Sumedh Sandanshiv, president, Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA).

According to him, the OPD services, ward duties and elective surgeries will be affected at Maulana Azad Hospital, University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), Sanjay Gandhi, GB Pant, Guru Teg Bahadur  (GTB) Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital and Baba Sahib Ambedkar Hospital from Wednesday onwards.

"The resident doctors will go on a strike on Wednesday from 8 AM and will be on strike until our demands are met and we get a written order to provide us increments according to 7th CPC," said Dr Sandanshiv.

Nevertheless, the emergency services at the hospital will not take a halt keeping in mind the number of patients at the hospitals, added the President of FORDA.
