Sweta Goswami

The BJP’s candidate from Patparganj, Nakul Bhardwaj, got a boost to his campaign on Friday when leader of Opposition in the lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj dropped by to address the locals of the area. Appealing for their votes, Swaraj promised the locals of controlling inflation within 30 days and criticised the Congress-led Delhi Government of being involved in scams rather than focussing on development.

Asking the people to practice their voting right, a hopeful Swaraj said, “We all are so fed up with the inability of the Congress to handle our problems. You all have reposed your faith in us. So on December 4, do not sit at home. Please come out to vote for us. Even if you face hardships due top the long queues, vote to overthrow Congress.”

Reflecting the party’s manifesto, she assured the masses of giving them immediate relief from inflation if BJP forms the government. She also spoke of increasing the cap on subsidised gas cylinders and raising the pension amount for the needy. With just three days to go for the elections, BJP top brass Sushma Swaraj is busy attending Jan Sabhas across Delhi. On Friday, East Delhi was on her agenda wherein she went and addressed the residents of Jungpura, Okhla, Kondli, Shahdara, laxmi Nagar, Patparganj and Gandhi Nagar.

In a direct attack on the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), she said, “The battle has been and will always be between the BJP and the Congress. Do not waste your vote by voting for AAP. Their candidates are millionaires; we should call it Ameer Aadmi Party.” Expressing her confidence in Bhardwaj, Swaraj said that he has been successful in connecting with the people of Patparganj and will win for sure.

The Congress has fielded sitting MlA Anil Kumar for the seat, whereas the AAP has its prominent leader Manish Sisodia as its contender in Patparganj. Meanwhile, amidst the election fever, residents continue to complain about poor sewage system apart from inadequate and dirty supply of water.
