In an attempt to help in plantation drive in all the parks and stop groundwater extraction, which is going on rampantly in South Delhi, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

As per the MoU, DJB will provide treated water from different sewage treatment plants (STPs) to the parks in the entire South Delhi jurisdiction. DJB CEO SS Yadav said: “The initiative will stop the groundwater extraction. It will also help in watering the parks helping them to look green in all seasons… Recently, we had the meeting with concerned officials of SDMC in this regard.”

The move to save groundwater will help in recharging of groundwater sources and increase its level in South Delhi’s jurisdictions where it is depleting rapidly, Yadav said further.

“The pipeline network from the STPs will provide treated affluent water to the parks in places like Okhla, Mehrauli, Vasant Vihar, Papan Kalan, Keshavpur and other adjoining areas of South Delhi,” Yadav told The Pioneer.
