On the lines of district rural development agency, the Arvind Kejriwal Government on Thursday approved a proposal for setting up district urban development authority (DUDA) to execute the development works recommended by the citizens under “swaraj funds” and works recommended by MlAs through MlAs local Area Development (lAD) funds in their Assembly constituencies.
The proposal was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on Thursday. The DUDA will also maintain an asset register for all assets created under MlAlAD in the constituency of MlA’s. This agency will open a separate bank account of each MlA. It is noted that Municipal bodies have objected the proposal saying that it would not be just and proper to allow other agency for execution of work.
According to the Cabinet note, that as per decision, the developmental works taken under MlA funds, citizens local area development fund through participative budgeting, development works in unauthorised colonies, minor works under My Delhi I Care, the works approved by district development committees, the plan schemes of development of urban villages and renovation/ reconstruction/ improvement of chaupals will be implemented through the DUDA.
The emphasis is to be given to local people’s participation in planning for economic development and also to reduce compliance. The DUDA will act as local agency at district level to approve and execute various plan schemes of the Government.
