Distressed home buyers to take on Noida Extn builders

Distressed home buyers of Greater Noida West, formerly known as Noida Extension, are up in arms against errant builders. Flat buyers have decided to take on such builders who have cancelled their bookings two-three years later. Buyers will now stall construction work of ongoing and new projects of such builders.

According to an estimate, around one dozen builders have cancelled over 5,000 flats without assigning reasons and are also not willing to allot flats in their new projects, likely to be launched by the end of the year. Flat owners have blamed realtors saying they have been cancelling bookings right under the nose of district administration, busy protecting interests of real estate companies.

“Around 1,500 buyers are in touch with us. We have filed more than 1,000 petitions before National Consumer Court. If our demands are not met, we will move Allahabad High Court,” said Abhishek Kumar, president of Noida Extension Flat Owner Welfare Association (NEFOWA).

The buyers have been receiving cancellation letters from developers of upcoming projects ever since the Greater Noida Master Plan 2021 was approved by NCR Planning Board. The developers cancelled bookings despite receiving 10 per cent booking amount and orders from Allahabad High Court to not cancel flats of existing buyers, Kumar said.
