Dissolving Delhi Assembly is Prez prerogative: Jung to MHA

Staff Reporter

In a confidential report, Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that dissolving the Delhi Assembly is the prerogative of the President under President’s Rule. The final call has to be taken by the President on advice of the Government. The report is expected to be sent to MHA within a day or two.

“There are still possibilities as far as formation of the new Government in Delhi is concerned. If the Centre directs to explore the possibility, he will do it. There is no need to dissolve Delhi Assembly right now,” l-G reportedly stated. Jung’s report is being given in the wake of Supreme Court hearing on September 9 on AAP’s plea challenging the President’s Rule in Delhi.

Sources said that the BJP tried twice to rope in the Congress and AAP MlAs to stake claim to form the Government in the national Capital. Both AAP and the Congress, which paraded all their MlAs on separate occasions before the media, claimed that their legislators had been approached by the saffron party. But the BJP claimed that the MlAs from both the parties were in constant touch with their leaders.

Raj Niwas sources said that if the Centre’s asked to explore possibility of Government formation, they will call BJP first to stake claim in Government formation as it is the single largest party in Delhi Assembly.
