After roaring back to power in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is planning to carry her swords to Tripura.
Banerjee will launch a massive movement in Tripura to oust the left Front Government in support of her party’s 11-point demand, Trinamool Congress sources said. Senior leader and party vice president Mukul Roy has already been entrusted with the job of building up a movement in that State.
According to sources the Trinamool supremo is likely to use the formula she tried during the Bengal polls to win over the Tripura electorate. She will appeal for support in the name of development and will make herself as the sole face of her party during the elections.
In Bengal she had told the electorate not to consider who was contesting the elections from a given seat “think that I am contesting the polls from all the 294 seats.’ The ploy neutralised the anti-corruption tirade of the Opposition and brought the Trinamool rich electoral dividends.
In Tripura the Bengal Chief Minister is also likely to lure the people with her pet projects like Kanyashree, Sabuj Saathi and Khadya Saathi whereby her Government doles out `25,000 to each BPl girl when she reaches 18 years of age, distributes free bi-cycles to girl students and distributes `2-a-kg rice.
Tripura is scheduled to go to polls in 2018.
The Trinamool has gained strength in Tripura after six Congress MlAs joined that party in the wake of a left-Congress alliance in Bengal.
The TMC will open party units in all the 3,000 Assembly booths and start a movement for its demands that include probe against chit fund scam in that State. The party is also asking for Central Government conducted audit in the State departments apart from demanding a waiver of loans up to `2 lakh to farmers.
Currently the left Front has 50 MlAs while the Trinamool has 7 and Congress has 3 legislators in that State.
