Staff Reporter

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (B JP’s) Delhi unit chief  Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday wrote to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, mentioning that people were deeply scared of the city's drinking water, which a Bureau of  Indian Standards (BIS)study found to be the most unsafe among 21 major Indian Cities.

"Uncontrolled panic has set in Delhi, people are terrified of drinking the water you are supplying," Tiwari wrote in his letter.  The BJP leader , who is also a Member of Parliament (MP ) from  North east

Delhi claimed that residents had contacted him and expressed concerns about their families' safety.

"People from many parts of the city had reported that their tap water had a bad odour and it was difficult to differentiate between the smell of sewage," Tiwari said . "No matter what politics are being practiced, lives of children and elderly not safe with polluted water and air," he said further.

Tiwari said he would accompany the officials as the legislator from North East Delhi, and asked Kejriwal to announce the date and time for water sampling. The BJP leader said that to ensure fairness, the samples and results should be analysed by a group of two to three "neutral experts".

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Member of Parliament (MP ) from Chandni Chowk also expressed concern .

Quoting  a report of  BIS, Dr Harsh Vardahn said that there is no point in disbelieving the report of the quality of drinking water "The BIS has state - of - the art facilities to scientifically test the quality of drinking water as per international specifications.  It is a matter of great concern that the samples have not been able to get through on the nineteen parameters standards for which elaborate testing was sincerely done," he said.

"The drinking water was tested for PH, hardness, TDS, calcium, magnesium, iron, ammonia, chloride etc.  The unsafe water is flooded by infectious particles which can badly affect kidney, liver, intestine and put especially children at the danger point of pneumonia," he added further.
